Primary Care Mentorship

By Andrew Reid - Nov 09, 2021

Family Practice Mentorship Interview:
Luis Garcia. PA-C

Today, we'll be speaking with Luis Garcia, who's working family practice and psychiatric medicine.

Before he started practice, he decided to join the mentorship program, because as a new grad, he hadn't seen a family practice patient in over a year.

After his primary care rotation, he was put into specialty rotations, and so a lot of what he learned was forgotten. This created a lot of doubt, long before he started working.

So, he joined, and immediately reviewed the primary care basics (signs, symptoms, labs, imaging, and management).

He also quickly realized there were a few things he didn't learn during rotations, that were non-clinical in nature, such as:

  • Proper documentation
  • How to avoid lawsuits
  • The practical aspects of being a physician assistant

Looking back he realized while on rotations, he felt as if he was "babied", but once in practice, he realized things were completely different. Luis was now on his own and had to manage his own patients.

So, he joined the mentorship program and we helped him get through the some very important sticking points, which he felt were missing from his program.

We did this through a combination of:

  • Primary care material
  • 1:1 coaching session
  • Daily group mentoring

In this interview you'll learn how Luis went from doubtful new grad, to confident physician assistant.

If you've been thinking about joining our mentorship, but aren't quite sure if the program is for you, then watch this interview so you can see how we can take your practice to the next level.
